Germany 2019 tasting report: 827 wines tasted

826 Tasting Notes

Germany’s 2018 vintage gives solid proof of how the country’s best producers rarely make a bad wine these days. Senior Editor Nick Stock and Contributing Editor Jack Suckling tasted more than 800 wines (mostly from the 2018 vintage) in Germany earlier this year and discovered no fewer than eight perfect 100-point wines. The extremely hot and dry conditions caught out some producers. Some dry rieslings were a little phenolic and broad, for example. But for the most part this year’s tasting revealed bottles that are drinking beautifully already, and will continue to do so for many years to come.

  1. Great report James and team! I think your scoring from what I have tasted is spot on!!, I hope you can publish it next year earlier, when I can still by these great wines in the summer, so no later than July would be awesome, as now the “great stuff” is all sold out! Thanks
